Where are you trying go? Why does it matter that you get there? Who do you need or want to come with you?
If you're a leader in any way shape or form you are regularly faced with these questions, how to answer them and then how to communicate them in a memorable and motivates action.
Usually this process includes, a vision, a mission, and some core values to guide, all packaged up into some sort of strategic plan master amazing strategy 2.0.exe.
You can see it clearly, you feel it in your bones, but then the time comes to share it with those who you need to come with you, and all you're met with is blank stares, or worse resistance.
If this is the case it's likely you're not communicating in a way that 1)Helps them see where you're inviting them or 2) Doesn't resonate with their own story. Your initial response to this might be that "they just don't get it" and so you'll just bang the drum until it sinks in --hopefully. But, spoiler alert the problem likely isn't your audience.
If you as a leader have a vision for where you believe your people -- whoever they might be-- need to go then it's your job to step into their world and provide on ramps of understanding with storytelling.
Each person in your audience, will need help seeing themselves in the vision you have and how it relates to them moving toward their goals. What does the story you're inviting them into move them toward? Is it compelling? Envisioning? Deeply meaningful?
I've heard it said that a true leader doesn't lead from the front, they lead from within.
Storytelling works the same way.
